Sidama National Regional State Education TVT job vacancy

The Sidama National Regional State is one of the regional states in Ethiopia. It is located in the southern part of the country and is named after the Sidama people, who are the largest ethnic group in the region. The capital city of the Sidama region is Hawassa (also known as Awasa).

The Sidama people have a long history that predates modern Ethiopia. They have a rich cultural heritage and have traditionally practiced agriculture, particularly the cultivation of coffee, which is an important cash crop in the region.

In terms of political history, the Sidama people have been advocating for self-rule and recognition of their identity for many years. The Sidama Liberation Movement (SLM) was formed in the 1990s to pursue these goals, and it played a significant role in the political landscape of the region.

In 2019, the Sidama people voted in a referendum to form their own regional state within Ethiopia, breaking away from the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region (SNNPR). This marked a significant milestone in their quest for self-determination.

Today, the Sidama National Regional State is one of the ten regional states in Ethiopia, each with its own regional government and administrative structure. The region continues to strive for development and to preserve its unique cultural heritage.
